SCCA: Sussex Cricket Combined Appeal Launched

The Sussex Cricket Combined Appeal 2013 was launched last Friday with 315 people in attendance for lunch at The Grand Hotel, Brighton, to help raise funds towards for two local based cricket charities, the Sussex Cricket in the Community Trust (SCCT) and the Sussex Cricket Museum and Educational Trust (SCMET).

An impressive figure of around £28,000 was raised to go towards Sussex Cricket in the Community Projects, and with the aim of making The Sutton Winson Academy Ground, Blackstone, a world-class junior cricket development facility, as well as generating money to bring exciting and interactive exhibits into the Sussex Cricket World Museum, at The County Ground, Hove.

The patrons of the appeal, Michael Yardy, Jim Parks and Holly Colvin were present and spoke about their enthusiasm for the appeal this year. Geoff Miller, the National Selector for the England Cricket team, entertained the crowd as guest speaker and the MC for the event was the former Sussex batsman Neil Lenham.

The appeal is particularly pertinent in 2013, with this year being not only the 10th anniversary of Sussex’s historic inaugural County Championship victory, but also the 50th Anniversary of the County winning the first ever one day competition.

Fashion designer Wayne Hemingway has designed a tie for the appeal which will be available soon. The next event in the programme takes place on Monday 6th May when there will be a Tribute Lunch held at Hove for the late Tony Greig and Christopher Martin-Jenkins.
