SCHOOLS CRICKET: Machan and Wells inspire local school to success04-Sep-2013
Handcross Park School in West Sussex enjoyed their most successful cricket season to date, and owe much of their success this season to regular visits from Sussex players Luke Wells and Matt Machan in a coaching capacity.
The school’s first team won the Great Walsted Cricket tournament and reached the final of both the Sussex County Cricket Cup and Ashdown House 6s tournament. Wells and Machan have both run numerous sessions at the school ensuring the pupils at Handcross Park are imitating what the professionals do on a day to day basis. With the success of the cricket academy at the school they have decided to extend the age range now to accommodate years 3-4 (Junior Academy) 5-6 (Emerging Players) and 7-8 (Senior Academy).
The academy will cover all aspects of the game from technique, fitness and mental aspects, and the success of last year’s academy is clear to see with 7 of the 11 first team boys being involved in Sussex Youth Cricket.
Matt Green, Head of Cricket at Handcross Park School, said “Having players and coaches of Luke and Matt's calibre come into the school and coach our boys is amazing. Both Luke and Matt have both played international cricket with Luke recently being selected to represent England Lions, and this sends a great message to all the boys and really inspires them to kick onto the next level."
The school have an open morning on Saturday 28th September and for more information and to book a place please email firstname.lastname@example.org
