SECOND ELEVEN: A win and a loss at Stirlands21-Jun-2013
It was another case of winning one and losing one for the Sussex Second Eleven yesterday as the honours were even in their two Twenty20 matches with Kent at Stirlands yesterday.
After being inserted to bat in the first match, Kent reached 152 for 6 from their 20 overs as trialist Imran Qayyum took three wickets for Sussex and Academy seamer Sam Grant claimed two. In reply, Sussex reached their target with a ball to spare as another trialist Nathan Hawkes hit 50 and skipper Michael Rippon (pictured) made 24. Ben Shoare (15) and Leo Cammish (21) were unbeaten as Sussex sneaked over the line.
In the second match, the hosts batted first this time and reached 133 for 7 from their 20 overs with trialist Tim Davey top-scoring with 36. It was a straightforward chase for Kent though despite Daniel Bell-Drummond failing to score as Grant struck early. Sam Billings (57) and Alex Blake (62) shared an undefeated stand of 129 to claim victory for the visitors.
The Seconds are back in action on Wednesday at Horsham when they take on the MCC Universities in a three-day match (11.00am). Entrance is of course FREE
