SECOND ELEVEN: Bank Holiday wins for 2nd XI and Development XI07-May-2013
Sussex’s Seconds got their Second Eleven Trophy campaign off to a flying start with a 35 run win over Middlesex at Radlett yesterday, whilst there was also a Bank Holiday victory for the Sussex Development XI.
Having been inserted to bat, Sussex made 258 for 6 from their 40 overs as Matt Machan (pictured) starred with a superb 110 from 115 balls. The highlight in terms of partnerships was the 92 he put on with Harry Finch (51) whilst an unbeaten 38 from Michael Rippon lower down the order gave the total further impetus.
In reply, Middlesex managed 223 for 8 from their allotted overs as they were restricted by tight bowling from all of Sussex’s bowlers. Left-arm seamers Lewis Hatchett and Chris Liddle both claimed two wickets apiece whilst Rippon, Andrew Miller, Will Beer and Sam Grant of the Academy all picked up one each.
It was a good start to the week for the Seconds who will now play the same opposition at the same venue in the Second Eleven Championship from 11.00am this morning. Updates are available on the Sussex Seconds Twitter feed HERE
