SECOND ELEVEN: Beer five boosts Sussex

Will Beer starred on the opening day of Sussex Second Eleven’s three-day friendly match against Worcestershire, at the Chester Road North Ground in Kidderminster.

After the hosts won the toss and elected to bat, they declared their innings on 398 for 9 in the 81st over of the day.

Alexei Kervezee (111) and Alex Milton (87) put on 208 for the fifth wicket but once Beer (pictued) had dismissed the Dutch international, a collapse ensued and Worcestershire lost five wickets for only seven runs as Sussex fought back into the game.

Beer finished the innings with figures of 5 for 56 whilst there were also wickets for Luke Wells (2 for 95), Harry Finch (1 for 33) and trialist Jack Winslade (1 for 75).

Sussex lost 8 of their 11 overs at the end of the day due to bad light and will resume at 11.00am this morning on 6 without loss, with Wells and Phil Salt opening the batting.
