SECOND ELEVEN: Christian Davis hits record Sussex 2nd XI individual score

Christian Davis hit 258 not out for Sussex's Second Eleven at Abergavenny

It was a record-breaking day for the Sussex Second Eleven as Christian Davis hit the highest ever individual score for the 2nd XI.

He hit an unbeaten 258 from 299 balls, which included 34 fours and a six, as Sussex moved into the lead on Day Two of their three-day Championship match with Glamorgan at Abergavenny, declaring on 489 for 9.

The 23 year-old batting all-rounder, who has first-class experience with Leeds/Bradford MCCU and captained his University side at Hove against Sussex back in April, broke the previous highest score for a Sussex 2nd XI player dating back to 1976, when Kepler Wessels hit 239 against Kent at Eastbourne.

Captain Ollie Robinson (58), Fynn Hudson-Prentice (40), Jonty Jenner (36) and Dan Douthwaite (39) were the other main contributors to the total as Sussex declared with a lead of 141.

Sussex then took control of the match as the hosts were reduced to 58 for 5, Robinson taking three wickets and Stuart Whittingham the other two, ensuring the latter now has six in the match.
