SECOND ELEVEN: Comfortable victory over Northants in Trophy20-Aug-2013
Sussex’s Second Eleven were victorious in their Second Eleven Trophy encounter with Northamptonshire yesterday at Horsham as they won by 100 runs.
Having lost the toss and been inserted to bat, Sussex made 192 for 7 from their 40 overs as opener Luke Wells scored 63. There were also contributions from fellow opener Joe Gatting (30), skipper Will Beer (21), Ollie Graham (25) and Leo Cammish (21 not out).
But it was the hosts’ bowling performance which really upped the ante as they rolled out their opposition for only 92. Lewis Hatchett’s explosive figures of 4 for 11 were backed up by three wickets from Beer, two from Wells and one from Andy Miller.
Northamptonshire were at one stage were 5 for 15 and only one player from the line-up managed double figures, a half-century from Josh Tolley.
Sussex take on the same opposition in the Second Eleven Championship over three days in a match that begins this morning (11.00am), also at Horsham. Entrance is of course FREE and you can follow the action via the Sussex Seconds Twitter by clicking HERE
