SECOND ELEVEN: Comfortable victory over Surrey at New Malden

Sussex’s Second Eleven sealed a comfortable victory last week when they beat Surrey by 98 runs in the Championship, at the LSE Sports Ground, New Malden.

After piling up 473 for 7 declared in their first innings, and the hosts responding with 327 for 9 declared, Sussex reached 141 for 8 from 28.5 overs in their second time at the crease, before setting Surrey a target.

Will Beer top-scored with 28 from 38 balls before Sussex set their hosts a target of 288 to win from a minimum of 72 overs.

And despite 62 from Gary Wilson, Surrey we thwarted by the leg-spin of Beer, who claimed figures of 4 for 50. Skipper Ollie Robinson (3 for 36) and Delray Rawlins (3 for 47) also did the damage as Sussex bowled them out for 189 to win by 89 runs.

Sussex are currently second in the South Group table in the Championship with one game remaining, when Hampshire are the visitors to Horsham from next Monday (11.00am).
