SECOND ELEVEN: Four wickets for Oxley but Sussex are defeated


Sussex’s Second Eleven were defeated on home turf yesterday as neighbours Surrey ran out 118-run winners in the 2nd XI Trophy at Horsham.

Have won the toss and asked the visitors to bat, Surrey made 209 for 9 from their 50 overs, with left-arm chinaman bowler Nick Oxley (pictured), from the Sussex Academy, the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 40.

Adam Barton and Delray Rawlins both claimed two wickets apiece whilst Abi Sakande also picked up a wicket. Freddie van den Burgh top-scored for Surrey making an unbeaten 96.

In reply though, Sussex were bowled out for 91 as Amar Virdi starred with impressive figures of 7 for 33. Nick Welch top-scored for Sussex with 24.

Sussex’s Second Eleven are taking on a Bangladesh XI at The 1st Central County Ground today as part of the international side’s training camp in Sussex, before returning to 2nd XI Trophy action on Monday against Kent at Polo Farm CC.
