SECOND ELEVEN: Haines century leads Sussex to victory

Tom Haines hit an unbeaten century for the Sussex Second Eleven yesterday as he led his side to a six-wicket victory over Glamorgan, in the 50-over Trophy tournament at St Fagan’s CC.

After the hosts won the toss and elected to bat, Glamorgan made 249 for 9 from their 50 overs, skipper Ollie Robinson starring with the ball, taking 3 for 50 from his ten overs.

In reply, Haines and trialist Christian Davis (35) put on 75 for the first wicket, before Fynn Hudson-Prentice (50) also found himself in a big stand with the young opener, as the pair built a partnership of 105 for the second wicket.

Haines, whose unbeaten 120 came from 130 balls and included 12 fours and two sixes, anchored the Sussex innings perfectly and they reached their target for the four wickets with almost seven overs to spare.

Sussex begin a three-day Championship match with Glamorgan at Abergavenny CC today at 11.00am.
