SECOND ELEVEN: Impressive day for Sussex at Blackstone11-Apr-2012
Sussex’s Second Eleven will resume on 158 for 1 this morning at the Sutton Winson Academy Ground at Blackstone in their three-day friendly against Surrey.
With day one of the match on Monday being completely washed out, the sides agreed on playing an arranged 100 overs practice time for each remaining day, with Surrey batting 60 overs and Sussex batting the remaining 40 overs yesterday, whilst the roles are to be reversed later today.
The visitors won the toss and after electing to bat, made 201 for 7 from their 60 overs. Matthew Spriegel, the Surrey captain, top-scored with an unbeaten 51 whilst Jason Roy also made 41, but it was an innings dominated by the Sussex attack and Will Beer was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 33. Academy prospect Tim Moses picked up the wickets of Rory Burns and Tom Jewell whilst there was a wicket apiece for Will Adkin and skipper Kirk Wernars.
In reply, Sussex began to dominate in the first ever second eleven match played at the Sutton Winson Academy Ground. Opening pair Harry Finch and Will Adkin put on 149 for the first wicket before the latter fell for 64. Andrew Hodd will join an unbeaten Finch (68) at the crease this morning when Sussex resume on 158 for 1 to bat for another 60 overs.
