SECOND ELEVEN: Jackson in fine form at The Saffrons28-May-2014
Sussex’s Second Eleven have managed to play some cricket this week despite the poor weather conditions and began their three-day Championship match with Hampshire at The Saffrons in Eastbourne yesterday.
Play was due to begin on Monday but a combination of rain and a wet outfield ensured there wasn’t any play on the opening day. But a full day’s play on Tuesday took place and with Hampshire winning the toss and electing to field, Sussex made 220 for 4.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Callum Jackson (pictured) made an unbeaten 66 in the town of his birth whilst putting on an unbroken stand of 84 with Fynn Hudson-Prentice (38 not out). There were also significant contributions from Will Beer (33), skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown (28) and Matt Machan (22).
Play is due to resume at The Saffrons at 11.00am this morning and entrance is of course FREE. You can follow updates from Eastbourne HERE via the Sussex Seconds’ Twitter page.
