SECOND ELEVEN: Michael Ripps through Kent line-up in SET win

Sussex's 2nd XI comfortably saw off Kent in the Second Eleven Trophy at The PROBIZ County Ground yesterday, as trialist Michael Rippon starred with figures of 7 for 12.

The visitors won the toss in this 40 over affair and after electing to field, saw Sussex rack up 273/9. Matt Machan, who hit a century in Sunday's CB40 win over the Unicorns was once again in fine form, smashing 87 from 90 balls, and further down the order it was Amjad Khan's 40 from 25 which also did the damage, including a memorable six over the South Stand.

Rippon also chipped in to make 26 off only 16 balls, setting Kent a stiff target.

The visitors' innings was disrupted by some freak showers at Hove but the recalculation under the Duckworth/Lewis method only brought about a quicker victory for the hosts and it was Rippon that really got to grips with their batsmen.

Once the promising Daniel Bell-Drummond had been bowled by Will Beer for a run-a-ball 43, there was no looking back for Sussex as Kent slipped from 81/2 to 108 all out, chasing a revised target of 238.

Rippon, a South African leg-spinner who is currently playing Sussex Premier League cricket for Brighton and Hove, needed only four overs to claim his seven wickets whilst fellow spinner Beer finished with figures of 3 for 29 from 4.5 overs.

Another solid win for the Second Eleven who now move onto Arundel to take on the same opposition with play starting at 11.00am today.

It is a Second Eleven Championship (three-day match) and entrance of course is FREE
