SECOND ELEVEN: Miller takes four as Sussex take big lead into last day05-Sep-2013
Sussex’s Second Eleven took a huge lead at the end of Day Two of their three-day friendly with Durham at Preston Nomads Cricket Club yesterday, as Andy Miller took four wickets for the hosts.
As Durham resumed on 19 for 1 yesterday morning in reply to Sussex’s mammoth 405 for 7 declared, they were bowled out for 202 which gave Sussex a hefty first-innings lead. Miller (pictured) was the star taking 4 for 41 whilst Amjad Khan, who has had a troubled year with injury, got through 16 overs and claimed one wicket.
Stuart Whittingham, Sam Grant and Michael Rippon all picked up a wicket apiece whilst Ashar Zaidi, who hit a century in the first innings for Sussex, took two wickets in his three overs. Irishman Stuart Poynter was the top-scorer for Durham with 68.
In reply, Sussex were reduced to 162 for 9 before the close of play, although this still represents a big lead of 365 over their visitors. Callum Jackson top-scored with 54 whilst Grant hit 39 in the lower-order.
