Sussex’s Second Eleven are closing in on victory over Surrey in their three-day Championship match as they lead their visitors by 216 runs, as they head into the final day’s play at Arundel Castle.
James Anyon starred with figures of 4 for 26 as Sussex bowled Surrey out for 121 yesterday in reply to the hosts’ 267 all out. Chris Liddle and Devon Endersby also claimed a couple of wickets each whilst Sam Grant and Will Beer picked up one apiece.
Sussex were then led by Matt Machan (pictured) as they took to the crease once more. He scored 48 from 46 balls as they were dismissed by Surrey inside 42 overs, whilst Leo Cammish made up for his first-innings duck with a valuable knock of 28 down the order.
That set Surrey a target of 318 runs to win the match and they were reduced to 101 for 3 as Liddle, Anyon and Joe Gatting all picked up a wicket before the close.
