SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex beaten in reduced-overs thriller12-Jun-2013
Sussex’s Second Eleven were beaten yesterday in their SEt20 match with neighbours Surrey at Preston Nomads CC.
Two matches had been scheduled for the day – as is consistent with this tournament – but due to rain for most of the day, the first match was abandoned but the second game did manage to begin at 4.30pm although it was reduced to 16 overs per side.
After Sussex won the toss and elected to field, Surrey hit an impressive 200 for 1 from their allotted overs as Jason Roy’s superb 127 from 52 balls set up the mammoth total, Chris Liddle (pictured) taking the only wicket for the hosts.
In reply, Sussex lost too many wickets at key intervals and could only reach 133 for 8 from their 16 overs. Joe Gatting top-scored with 30 whilst Liddle was unbeaten on 23 at the end of the innings.
The Second Eleven are back in action on Friday when they take on Essex in the Second Eleven Trophy, again at Preston Nomads CC. Play begins at 12.00pm and entrance is of course FREE.
