SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex beaten in thriller against Unicorns A10-Jul-2014
The Sussex Second Eleven were beaten today in thrilling fashion in their 50-over Trophy match with Unicorns A at Challow & Childrey CC in Oxfordshire, despite a stunning century from Matt Machan.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Unicorns made 262 for 5 as Ed Pollock struck a century for the hosts. Chris Liddle, Tim Moses and Fynn Hudson-Prentice all took a wicket apiece.
In reply, Machan was the mainstay of the innings hitting 130 from 126 balls, a knock which included ten fours and two sixes. But he lacked support from the rest of order apart from a 120-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Ben Shoare (43).
Machan was the ninth wicket to fall in the 48th over and Sussex couldn’t quite creep over the line, losing by two runs.
