SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex defeated by Kent in Championship


Sussex’s Second Eleven were defeated this week in the Championship, as they were beaten by Kent at Polo Farm CC.

After the hosts were bowled out in their first innings for 392, thanks to six wickets from Abi Sakande, Sussex then dismissed themselves for 246.

Alex Woodland top-scored with 40 whilst a late unbeaten 38 from Stuart Whittingham boosted the total. Jonty Jenner (27), Adam Barton (24) and Delray Rawlins (24) all also chipped in.

Kent then took to the crease once more and made 245 for 9 before declaring. Whittingham was the star with the ball this time for Sussex as he claimed figures of 5 for 85, whilst Sakande (2 for 69) was also amongst the wickets again, with Woodland and Barton.

That set Sussex 392, the score that Kent made in their first innings, to win the match. Skipper Angus Robson led from the front with a knock of 70 whilst Phil Salt also made 53 but Sussex were bowled out for 227, as Kent emerged victorious by 164 runs.
