SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex defeated in friendly with Durham


Abi Sakande claimed figures of 3 for 61 in Durham's second innings

Sussex’s Second Eleven were defeated in their final outing of the summer, as they were beaten by 104 runs by Durham in a three-day friendly at The Blackstone Academy Ground, sponsored by Hurstpierpoint College.

After Durham resumed on 191 for 4 yesterday morning, a lead of 104 runs over Sussex, they batted on to reach 240 for 6 before declaring. That set Sussex a victory target of 345. Abi Sakande was the pick of the bowlers for Sussex, taking figures of 3 for 61 from his 15 overs.

And despite half-centuries from Tom Haines (51) and Nick Welch (51), Sussex fell 105 runs short of their target. Academy prospects Joe Billings (37) and Jonty Jenner (33) also made solid contributions but the north-east county came out on top.
