SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex defeated twice in Arundel Castle T20s15-May-2014
Sussex’s Second Eleven were defeated in both of their T20 matches yesterday at Arundel Castle against the MCC Young Cricketers.
In the first match Sussex won the toss and after electing to field, restricted the MCC to 138 for 3 from their 20 overs. The wickets were shared around for the bowlers with Chris Liddle, Will Beer and trialist Jofra Archer all claiming a scalp each.
In reply, a strong Sussex batting line-up fell 16 runs short of their target. Chris Jordan top-scored with 30 whilst Harry Finch (22) and Fynn Hudson-Prentice (20) were the main contributors but couldn’t lead Sussex to victory.
In the second match of the day Sussex were again in the field first this time losing the toss. Yasir Arafat slotted into the side and showed his class to claim figures of 4 for 18, whilst trialist Bradley Wadlan picked up two wickets and Rory Hamilton-Brown (1 for 21) did the damage in the MCC’s total of 134 for 7.
Sussex though couldn’t quite get over the line again and despite 36 from Steffan Piolet the hosts were defeated by seven runs.
