SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex ease to victory over Somerset at Arundel06-May-2014
Sussex’s 2nd XI made it two wins from two in the Second Eleven Trophy as they beat Somerset by seven wickets at Arundel Castle today.
After the visitors won the toss and chose to bat, Sussex bundled out their opponents for only 134 from exactly 40 overs, ten shy of the allotted amount. Jofra Archer (3 for 17), a trialist who has played for West Indies Under-19s, was the pick of the bowlers whilst Chris Liddle (3 for 46) also claimed three scalps. Lewis Hatchett (2 for 29) and Sam Grant (2 for 18) were also amongst the wickets. Alex Barrow top-scored with 47 for Somerset.
In reply it was a shaky start for Sussex after being reduced to 3 for 2 but following a partnership of 105 between young Tom Haines (46) and trialist Craig Cachopa, the hosts reached their target in the 35th over of the day, with the latter finishing unbeaten on 77.
