SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex narrowly ahead going into final day

Sussex's Abi Sakande took 4 for 59 on Day Two against Middlesex

Sussex’s Second Eleven have a slender lead of 53 runs going into the third day of their three-day Championship match with Middlesex at Richmond, but are eight wickets down in their second innings.

Middlesex made 328 all out in their first innings in reply to Sussex’s 177, as Abi Sakande starred with the ball, taking 4 for 59. The returning Lewis Hatchett claimed figures of 2 for 64 whilst trialist Graeme van Buuren took 2 for 58.

Sussex were then reduced to 204 for 8 in their second innings and were indebted to an unbeaten 76 from only 60 balls by Ashar Zaidi, who continued his good form from Monday’s Trophy match in which he hit a century.

Callum Jackson (33), Matt Hobden (22) and Ben Brown (20) had all got starts but failed to convert them into bigger scores. Zaidi remains at the crease overnight with Sussex ahead by 53.
