SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex put to the sword at Horsham

Sussex’s Second Eleven spent a long day in the field on the opening day of their three-day friendly match with Essex yesterday, as the visitors piled up 322 for 5 from 93 overs at Horsham.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, skipper Jaik Mickleburgh hit 119 and Greg Smith an unbeaten 101. Daniel Lawrence also made 71 as Sussex struggled to make any serious inroads into the visiting order.

They were indebted though to two wickets from the left-arm seam of Lewis Hatchett (pictured) and also two scalps from trialist Brad Wadlan.

Play continues this morning at 11.00am at Cricket Field Road and entrance of course is FREE
