SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex record dramatic victory over Worcestershire


Stuart Whittingham hit an unbeaten 41 and took 4 for 43 on the final day at Kidderminster

Sussex’s Second Eleven recorded a remarkable victory in the closing stages of their three-day friendly with Worcestershire, at the Chester Road North Ground in Kidderminster.

Having resumed on the final day on 341 for 5, Sussex batted on to 437 for 8 declared, with Stuart Whittingham’s late-order 41 not out boosting the total.

But what was the come allowed Sussex a tilt at victory, as they bowled out Worcestershire for only 105. Whittingham starred with figures of 4 for 43 whilst Luke Wells (3 for 21), Will Beer (2 for 22) and Lewis Hatchett (1 for 14) also got in on the act.

Sussex were against the clock in terms of wrapping up a win but had no trouble in reaching their target of 67 within the final 14 overs of the day. Wells hit an unbeaten 32 whilst Phil Salt smashed 26 off 8 balls as it took only 29 deliveries to seal the victory.

The Second Eleven are back in action on Monday 2nd May when they face Somerset in their opening Championship match at Taunton Vale.
