SECOND ELEVEN: Victory on final day over Hampshire29-May-2014
Sussex’s Second Eleven claimed victory in their Championship match with Hampshire this week after both sides contrived to set up a finish after rain had ruined the start of the match.
With no play possible on Day One at The Saffrons in Eastbourne on Monday, Sussex reached 220 for 4 on Day Two and moved on to 277 for 5 declared yesterday as Callum Jackson finished with an unbeaten 88 and Fynn Hudson-Prentice hit 57.
With Hampshire forfeiting their first innings and Sussex their second innings, the visitors had a target of 278. But the Sussex bowlers were in rampant mood and bowled Hampshire out for 158. The left-arm seam of Lewis Hatchett (pictured) was the pick of the bowling, taking 4 for 37 whilst Will Beer was also amongst the wickets (3 for 33). Matthew Hobden, Chris Liddle and trailist Bradley Wadlan all claimed a wicket apiece in the 119 run victory.
