SECOND ELEVEN: Sussex pile up the runs on opening day against Surrey

Jonty Jenner, of the Sussex Academy, scored a maiden 2nd XI century on the opening day of Sussex's three-day Championship match with Surrey

Sussex's 2nd XI piled up the runs against Surrey at the LSE Sports Ground, New Malden, on Day One of their Second Eleven Championship fixture, ending the day on 473 for 7.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Gary Harte and Tom Haines shared an opening stand of 197 runs, the latter eventually falling for 86.

Ryan Patel managed to take five top order wickets, fighting back for the home team and ending play with figures of 5 for 59. This only brought Jonty Jenner together with Harte, though, as they put together a fine partnership of 178, Jenner leading the way with a fine knock of 116 from just 107 balls. Gary Harte fell one run short of a fine double century before falling in the 93rd over.
