HIGHLIGHTS & STUMPS: Brown leads Sussex fightback at Hove

Ben Brown’s unbeaten 78 held Sussex’s innings together on Day One of their LV=County Championship Division One clash with Yorkshire at The County Ground, Hove today as the hosts closed on 276 for 9.

The visitors, who are still in with a shout in the Division One title race and needing a win in this match, reduced Sussex to 117 for 5 at Lunch but the hosts, led by ‘keeper Brown, rallied in the afternoon session.

Chris Nash (35) and Michael Yardy (29), Matt Prior (23) and Rory Hamilton-Brown had all made starts but were undone by Yorkshire’s bowling attack. Former England seamer Ryan Sidebottom took three wickets whilst there were two apiece for Liam Plunkett and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.

In fact Williamson and fellow spinner Adil Rashid had been bowling for some time when the light was deemed too gloomy to continue at 4.22pm and play was eventually called to a halt for the day.

Play resumes at 10.30am tomorrow morning with Brown at the crease with Lewis Hatchett.
