STUMPS: Durham build lead over Sussex26-Sep-2013
Champions Durham showed their mettle at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground today as they built a hefty lead of 216 runs over Sussex.
Having resumed the day on 2 without loss, 162 runs behind their hosts, a mammoth partnership of 228 between Keaton Jennings (113 not out) and Michael Richardson (129) bought the title-winners back into the game.
When Durham fell to 120 for 6 it looked as though Sussex might be able to push for a victory inside three days at Hove but the form of Jennings and Richardson scuppered any hopes as they led the north-eastern fightback.
Chris Jordan ended the day with three wickets whilst Jimmy Anyon (pictured), late in the day, claimed his 50th scalp of the Championship season by removing Richardson. Sussex now have three bowlers this season who have all taken 50 wickets.
The final day’s play in this match and indeed the season begins tomorrow at Hove from 10.30am.
