STUMPS: Jordan takes another five as Patel boosts Notts31-May-2013
Sussex were thwarted by a Samit Patel century as they tussled with Nottinghamshire on Day One of their LV=County Championship clash at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove, who closed on 321 for 8.
He eventually fell for 157 shortly before the close of play as he became Chris Jordan’s fifth wicket of the innings.
After skipper Ed Joyce won the toss and elected to field, it was another fantastic morning with the ball for Sussex, evoking memories of last week's win over Somerset at Horsham. A strong first session left their opponents 62 for 4 at lunch with Jordan harbouring figures of three wickets for only 16 runs.
Nottinghamshire aimed to play themselves back into the game but despite losing Steven Mullaney along with skipper Chris Read, to the bowling of Steve Magoffin and Jordan respectively, it was the exploits of Patel that swung the pendulum back in the direction of the visitors.
But with Sussex claiming his wicket before the close, on a day that began later than usual due to the previous night’s Yorkshire Bank 40 match, it set the match up for an exciting weekend’s cricket.
Play reverts to its normal start time of 11.00am tomorrow.
