HIGHLIGHTS & STUMPS: Lancashire halt Sussex charge

Steve Magoffin was Sussex's chief destoyer with the ball, taking three wickets

A rearguard stand by Tom Smith and Alex Davies meant Lancashire staved off a total collapse against LV= County Championship Division One leaders Sussex at Emirates Old Trafford.

The pair came together with the Red Rose in a perilous position at 80 for six on the second day of the match, and were both still there at stumps with Smith on 45 and 19-year-old wicketkeeper Davies nine shy of a maiden first-class fifty.

When the weather brought play to a close Lancashire had moved on to 157 for six in reply to Sussex's 298 all out.

The visitors added 22 runs to their overnight score as Michael Yardy was run out for 136 and Simon Kerrigan trapped Jon Lewis lbw.
