STUMPS: Sharks beaten in another T20 thriller05-Jul-2013
Sussex Sharks were beaten this evening in the Friends Life t20 as they were on the wrong end of another thriller at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove.
The Sharks won the toss and after electing to bat, made 145 for 6 from their 20 overs. Scott Styris was once again the top scorer in the Sussex innings as he made an unbeaten 39 and there were good contributions from Chris Nash (23) and Matt Machan (20) infront of a packed crowd at Hove.
The hosts made the perfect start with the ball as they removed James Vince in the first over, who was caught and bowled by Michael Yardy. Jimmy Adams fell which reduced them to 10 for 2 but a 72 run partnership between Michael Carberry (50) and Neil McKenzie saw Hampshire much closer to the target.
Another couple of late wickets didn’t restrict the Royals enough and the equation saw the visitors needing twelve to win from the final over of the match. After a boundary off the first Chris Jordan delivery, the batsmen came back for two on the next but the Sharks conceded four overthrows and the match was all but over. McKenzie finished 71 not out off only 50 deliveries.
Sussex take a break from Twenty20 action until they face Hampshire once again next Friday evening at the Ageas Bowl (7.00pm) whilst they head to Somerset for an LV=County Championship encounter on Monday.
