HIGHLIGHTS & STUMPS: Sussex 162 runs ahead as play lost in mists of time25-Sep-2013
Sussex are 162 runs ahead of this year’s LV=County Championship winners Durham going into the third day of their clash at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove, although fog and sea mist proved to be the winner on a curtailed day at BN3.
After resuming on 186 for 5 today, Luke Wright fell 13 runs short of a century as he was bowled by Chris Rushworth. Ashar Zaidi (45), playing only his second game for Sussex, put on 83 with Ben Brown before he fell to a Scott Borthwick and Ben Stokes combination.
Brown however, who had come to the wicket with Sussex in trouble at 90 for 5, guided the score past 300 until he drove Borthwick to Stokes at short cover for an excellent 64.
Sussex’s 328 all out was exactly double Durham’s first-innings score but when the visitors took to the crease a sea fret had enveloped Hove and after only two balls of the innings, the umpires decided the play could not continue.
They monitored the situation for the rest of the afternoon but at 5.00pm play was officially abandoned for the day.
