STUMPS: Sussex draw with Lancashire as less nine overs play possible on Day Four07-May-2014
Sussex missed out on the chance to force victory over Lancashire at the Emirates Old Trafford today as the rain intervened on their hopes of a third LV=County Championship win.
With a poor forecast for the final day of the match Sussex declared overnight on 216 for 5 setting their hosts a target of 324 from a minimum of 96 overs.
But only 8.4 overs were possible, with Lancashire reaching 19 without loss, before the rain came earlier than originally forecasted and any subsequent hopes of taking to the field later on in the day were dashed by intermittent showers.
After tea was taken at 3.10 it was decided around half an hour later that no further play would be possible and the match would be abandoned as a draw. Sussex take 10 points from the match and Lancashire 8.
Following Warwickshire’s win over Middlesex yesterday they are currently a solitary point clear of Sussex at the summit of Division One. Sussex will next be in action on Sunday when they entertain Durham at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove (11.00am start).
Sussex (298 all out and 216 for 5) drew with Lancashire (191 all out and 19 for 0)
