Sussex County Cricket Club and The Guernsey Cricket Board

Sussex County Cricket Club and The Guernsey Cricket Board are delighted to announce the formal signing of a ‘document of understanding’ providing a commitment on both sides to working closely together across all aspects of cricket on and off the field.
The document covers a wide range of areas from Coaching, Training Camps and Talent Identification to Commercial and Marketing Opportunities. The Board’s will work to a Mission Statement “to integrate Guernsey into the Sussex Cricket pathway in a seamless, natural manner.” In order that this can be achieved a number of key objectives have been agreed;
  To support the development of cricket in Guernsey and Sussex
  To have a Guernsey player in the Sussex Pro Squad within 10 years
  To ensure the profile of the partnership is raised, and displayed, at all opportunities
  To maximise the commercial opportunities within the partnership for both parties and their charitable arms
  To offer opportunities for exchange programs so that staff at all levels and in all facets of both organisations can benefit from progression and development

An example of the partnership in action was the joint GCB/SCCC EPP Training Camp in Abu Dhabi over Easter. Further evidence will be seen at the weekend when the Sussex CCC Academy side are in Guernsey to play a Guernsey XI at KGV on Saturday 14th April (11.30am start) and Sunday 15th April (10.00am start). On Friday 18th May Guernsey will pop across to The PROBIZ County Ground in Hove and play a ‘home’ game against a Canada XI.
Commenting on the arrangement, Dave Brooks, Sussex Chief Executive, said “We are pleased with the progress to date with Guernsey Cricket but know that we have to notch it up even further to realise the full potential. There are talented cricketers on the Island, the Island is keen to back its elite sportsman, and this is where we can assist in delivering the dream of a professional cricketer on our staff. And while we chase that, it will improve standards more generally and help Guernsey consolidate and develop its world status in the sport.”
Guernsey Cricket Board CEO, Mark Latter, added, “For a number of years now Guernsey and Sussex have had a working relationship primarily evident with the access Guernsey has had to Sussex coaching staff, most notably Andy Cornford and Keith Greenfield.
“It was clear though that when speaking to many outside parties there was a lack of clarity regards the breadth and depth of the partnership and, this was something I was keen to see made far more transparent and, open.
“Working closely with Dave Brooks, the SCCC Chief Executive has allowed us to achieve a fantastic working understanding and set some realistic goals for both sides. Sussex CCC is a Club with great tradition and values and has translated this into success on and, off the pitch. We in Guernsey Cricket believe we share these attributes and are delighted to be connected with all at Sussex CCC.”
