SUSSEX SPORTS AWARDS: Success for Sussex Cricket27-Nov-2012
It was an impressive night for Sussex Cricket at the Sussex Sports Awards on Friday evening with two awards being won from the host of nominations connected with the County.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the Sussex Sports Awards reward quality, achievement, determination and commitment. Bringing together clubs, teams, businesses and the wider professional partnership, it is a fantastic culmination of the year's sporting successes.
The achievements of recreational cricket in Sussex during an Olympic Year further demonstrate the strength and depth of the Clubs and their volunteers within the County.
After ending the year unbeaten in all forms of cricket, the Sussex Womens Cricket Team walked away with the Hilton Metropole Team of the Year Award, whilst Lillie Collins of Shoreham Academy, a volunteer in cricket for several years, picked up the Wave Leisure Young Volunteer of the Year Award.
There were also nominations in several other categories, with Horsham Ladies Cricket Club nominated for the Rix & Kay Club of the Year Award, the Sussex Sharks Visually Impaired Team also nominated in the Team of the Year Category, whilst Ray Fuller of Horsted Keynes CC was up for the BBC Sussex Unsung Hero Award.
There was further success for Womens and Girls cricket in the nominations as Bells Yew Green Under-15’s Girls Team were nominated in the Juice 107.2 Young Team of the Year category. All were short listed to the final three of their category, representing excellent achievement.
Tim Shutt, Sussex’s Head of Cricket Development, said, “Once again, it is fantastic to see the achievements of Sussex cricket players and volunteers recognised in such a way. Being an event for all sports, there were some outstanding achievements recognised on the night, including the performances of our local Olympians and Paralympians. The combination of this event entailing cross-sport recognition, in a year of great sporting achievement, makes cricket’s success even more pleasing.”
