UPDATE: Anyon hampers Lancashire12-Apr-2012
James Anyon claimed five wickets as Lancashire made a shaky start to the defence of their LV= County Championship title against Sussex at Aigburth.
Having been asked to bat first on a juicy wicket offering assistance to the seamers, the Red Rose slipped to 16 for three inside the opening hour.
Steve Magoffin bowled Stephen Moore shortly before Anyon first sent Paul Horton packing and then had Ashwell Prince caught behind in his next over.
Karl Brown and Steven Croft dug in, but runs remained at a premium, and only 20 had been added by the time the former was lbw to Anyon.
By lunch, Lancashire were 46 for four, Anyon boasting figures of 3-25 and Sussex debutant Magoffin having returned 1-5 from an accurate 10-over opening spell, which included seven maidens.
The hosts were eventually bowled out for 124 as Anyon finished with figures of 5 for 36 whilst Magoffin and Amjad Khan claimed two wickets apiece.
