WINTER: Jackson hoping for success in the UAE

Sussex wicketkeeper-batsman Callum Jackson is continuing his winter development by playing in the top league in the United Arab Emirates.

Jackson has recently joined up with the Alubond Tigers, a professional club who are one of the strongest teams in the UAE’s A Division. They can include three players amongst their ranks who will be part of the UAE national side and rub shoulders with the world’s best next month in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

He will be playing top-level cricket in the country until mid-March when he will join up with the rest of the Sussex squad on their pre-season preparations.

Callum reported back on the early stages of his trip by saying, “I have only just arrived so have only played one T20 game so far. The wickets and outfields are very good and the cricket is of similar standard to the 1st Grade cricket that I played in Australia last winter, and it is very competitive.

“I was pleased with my batting in red ball cricket last season so this winter I want to concentrate on developing my one-day white ball batting skills. As the majority of cricket played out here is either 50-overs or T20, and the team plays two or three times a week, I should get plenty of opportunity to do so.”
