WINTER: Machan stars but Scotland are defeated18-Nov-2013
There was some success for Sussex players over the weekend at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates but despite their efforts, their respective sides were defeated.
Matt Machan smashed 54 from only 39 balls for Scotland at the Sharjah Stadium but they failed to chase down Afghanistan’s 171 for 6, as they managed 154 for 6 from their 20 overs. Machan is back in action today at the Dubai Cricket Academy as the Scots take on Nepal.
Michael Rippon was amongst the runs for the Netherlands as he hit an unbeaten 50 from only 40 balls, but they couldn’t overhaul Papua New Guinea’s mammoth 193 for 3, which included an unbeaten century from Tony Ura. PNG can also include former England Test wicketkeeper Geraint Jones amongst their ranks in this tournament.
