WINTER: More runs for Machan in Scotland's South African tour19-Oct-2012
Sussex’s young left-hander Matt Machan is currently touring South Africa with Scotland and has been in fine form with the bat again this week, as he hit 91 in their three-day fixture with the North West Dragons.
He qualifies for the associate nation through his Scottish mother and with the change in the ICC laws allowing players with parents from north of the border to represent them, despite not being born in the country, he has been selected for them to tour this winter.
His knock of 91 came as Scotland reached 387 for 9 at the close of play on day one against the Dragons at Witrand. The hosts went on to declare 41 runs short of their score by the end of the second day, with the tourists resuming today 5 without loss overnight.
Machan said of the tour so far, “It has been intense and it has been a good week getting to know everyone. It’s been quite different for me, having been at Sussex through the age group system and now I’ve got to get to know some fresh faces but the lads have really welcomed me in.
“It is always nice to score runs, but especially in a new environment when people don’t know much about you. It’s good to get some time in the middle.
The tour lasts until early next month and Machan, who hit a century in their first three-day affair against the same opposition last week, will be looking to make an impact in the 50 and 20 over matches which begin against the Combined North West XI on Tuesday.
