Sussex’s stars have been in action all over the globe as 2017 begins in earnest, and with only just over two months until the first friendly at The 1st Central County Ground, the countdown is on to the new campaign.

He also played in St George’s First Grade one-day match on Saturday as they beat North Sydney by 11 runs, with Salt making a run-a-ball 12.

Young fast bowler Abi Sakande is spending a winter in Nelson, New Zealand playing club cricket and was amongst the wickets again this weekend. He took 4 for 31, and match figures of 5 for 76, as the Nelson Pine Griffins defeated Buller Lions in a two-innings Hawke Cup match.

Paceman Tymal Mills has signed up for a short two game stint with the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash. He made his debut in today’s (Wednesday) clash with the Perth Scorchers, bowling his full four overs for 30 runs.

He looks set to face his Sussex skipper Luke Wright when the Heat take on the Melbourne Stars next week. Wright helped the Stars to a thrilling two-wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers yesterday at the MCG.

Fellow Sussex man Chris Jordan missed the game with a hamstring strain and is concentrating on getting fully fit for England’s T20 series in India towards the end of the month.

Stiaan van Zyl hit a half-century for the Cape Cobras last week as they won their Sunfoil Series match with Highveld Lions by six wickets. Former Sussex overseas bowler Wayne Parnell hit an unbeaten century for the Cobras, and he shared a stand of 125 with van Zyl as the Cobras chased down 239 to win.

Vernon Philander, Sussex’s overseas signing for the first half of the summer, has enjoyed back to back comfortable Test victories over Sri Lanka. After taking six wickets in the opening match, he claimed figures of 4 for 27 and 3 for 48 in the 282 run win at Cape Town.
