WINTER WATCH: Prolific Rawlins in form again but England are defeated in India

Delray Rawlins continued his prolific form for England’s Under-19s in the third match of their one-day series in Mumbai, but could not prevent India claiming a second consecutive win.

Rawlins, the left-handed all-rounder from Bermuda who recently signed a professional contract with Sussex after coming through the Academy, hit 96 from 106 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes, to give him a total of 249 runs from 229 balls in the series, at an average of 124.5.

Somerset’s George Bartlett chipped in with 55 from 67 balls, his second half-century of the series. But after his dismissal England slipped from 122 for two to 215 all out, with four wickets for Rajasthan legspinner Rahul Chahar, and three for left-arm spinner Anukul Roy.

Rawlins also impressed with the ball, taking two for 30 with his left-arm spin. Liam Patterson-White, another slow left armer from Nottinghamshire who was one of three players winning their first one-day caps for the Under-19s with Surrey’s Will Jacks and Somerset’s Louis Shaw, also claimed tidy figures of one for 35.

But opener Shubman Gill fired India to a comfortable victory with an unbeaten 138 from 157 balls, the highest score of the series so far.

The five-match series continues on Monday when England hope that Yorkshire seamer Matt Fisher will return as captain.
