WOMENS: 12 Sussex players selected for Super 4s17-May-2012
The Womens Super 4s, which sees the best 48 Womens players in England selected to play in four teams over two weekends, started last Saturday with the final matches being played this weekend.
Out of the 48 players selected, Sussex had nine players selected to take part, with three players as reserves in case of injury. Sussex has more players than any other County selected for the Super 4s. On Saturday they played two Twenty20 matches, and this weekend they will play two 50 over matches. At the end of the Super 4s, a squad of 14 will be selected for England for the forthcoming series against India in June.
Sussex players selected for the Womens Super 4s:
Twenty-six Under-15 players have been selected to take part in the EWDP Under-15s on the 6th–8th June at Brighton College, where they will play three matches as well as having tactical, nutritional and strength and conditioning sessions over the three days.
Leg spinner, Izzy Collis, who was selected, last year for the Junior Super 2s, and who is currently on the Sussex Emerging players programme has been selected again this year. Izzy is an aggressive top order batsman who plays her cricket at Horsham Cricket Club.
Ellen Burt, who put in some outstanding performances last season for the Under-13s and has also been on the Sussex Emerging players programme this year has also been selected for the EWDP Under-15s. Ellen is an opening quick bowler and also bats in the top order and plays her cricket at Ansty Cricket Club. Ellen also won the Sussex WCA Under-13 player of the year last season.
The final player selected from Sussex is wicket-keeper and top order bat Abi Freeborn, who was on the Sussex Emerging players programme in 2011. Abi has only been wicket keeping for two seasons but with the hard work she has put in she is showing she is one of the leading young wicket-keepers coming through the system. Abi plays her cricket at Hastings & St Leonards Priory.
Sussex WCA Director of Cricket, Charlotte Burton said, “The three players deserve their selection into the EWDP Under-15s this year, they put in some outstanding performances last season for their age groups and all three have worked extremely hard during the winter. It is also good to see that we are producing some good cricketers for the future, not only for Sussex but hopefully future England players.”
