WOMENS: Alexia Walker becomes most capped Womens player

24-Jun-2013

Sussex Women's all-rounder Alexia Walker recently became the most capped player ever for the Sussex Women when she played against Kent on Bank Holiday Monday, as she has now amassed 112 caps.

30 year-old Walker has been playing for Sussex for over 20 years, where she first played at Junior County level before being selected for the senior squad in her teenage years. She has won the County Championship five times, twice as captain and last year was involved in the T20 win.

Alexia also plays an important role off the pitch with the Sussex Women’s Cricket Association, where she is one of the lead coaches for the County Girls squads, as well as being a Director of the Sussex Cricket Board. She will be soon taking on the role as Director of Cricket at the Aldridge Cricket Academy with the two Brighton Academies, BACA and PACA.

She continues to be a vital member of the Sussex Women’s side, as a pace bowler, top-order batsman and currently one of the leading catchers in the side, and in no way does it look as though she will be stopping soon which is good for Sussex as her next target is to reach 150 caps.

Sussex Women’s coach and Director of Sussex Women’s Cricket, Charlotte Burton said, “It is a fantastic achievement that Alexia has become the most capped player for Sussex. She has done a lot for Sussex over the years, not just on the pitch but also off it and I am so pleased for her. It is a great accolade for Alexia to achieve and I know she has quite a few more years left in her to try and reach 150 caps.

"She puts in everything to play for Sussex, you can always rely on her to give 110% as it means a lot to her to represent the County and the girls coming through can see that when they play in the same team as her or when she coaches them. She is a good role-model for the girls who aspire to play Women’s Cricket for Sussex.”
