WOMENS: Championship opener at East Grinstead on Sunday11-Apr-2013
The Sussex Women start their County Championship campaign on Sunday against Berkshire at East Grinstead Cricket Club.
The Women’s season starts earlier than usual and it will be the first time they have played at East Grinstead, who are currently working on building a Women & Girls section at the club.
Sussex have named their side for the first match on Sunday, which is a young but experienced line-up, led from the front by new captain Holly Colvin. The squad are looking to win both formats of the game this year; the Championship, which they missed out on last year due to lack of bonus points, and the T20 which they successfully won for the first time last season (pictured above).
The side have a packed couple of months ahead which will see them take on Berkshire, Warwickshire, Surrey, Yorkshire, Kent, Middlesex, Nottinghamshire and Essex for the right to claim the County Championship. The side will play at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground in three weeks time, on Monday 6th May against Surrey.
Sussex Women’s Coach Charlotte Burton, said, “The side are looking forward to getting the season underway and all the players are more determined than ever to win the County Championship. They were unlucky last year not to reach the final after winning all their matches, but because of not enough bonus points the team came third. However, we will look to be more ruthless this year and will aim to take all the wickets as well as keep up with the run rate to ensure we claim those extra points.”
The match on Sunday starts at 11.00am and entry to the ground is FREE.
