WOMENS: Sussex head to the Kia Oval for Championship opener26-May-2012
After their first match against Essex was cancelled due to the weather, the Sussex Women will finally start their County Championship campaign on Sunday against Surrey at The Kia Oval (11.00am).
The County Championship sees a newly restructured league this season. The Counties in Division One have increased this year and each County will play each other once, with the top two teams then meeting in a final at the end of August to determine this year’s County Champions.
Sussex will play Essex, Surrey, Yorkshire, Somerset, Middlesex, Berkshire, Nottinghamshire and last year’s County Champions Kent, over the next four months.
They will be at full strength on Sunday, with Sarah Taylor coming back from injury that would have ruled her out of the Essex match, had it taken place earlier in the month.
Sussex Women’s Head Coach, Charlotte Burton said, “It is great to finally get the season underway and for the players to play at the Kia Oval is a great opportunity for them. The players have managed to get some matches in at club and Super 4's level and everyone is looking in good form ready for Sunday.
"Surrey are a slightly unknown side to us as we haven’t played them in the 50 over competition for a few years, but the team are looking forward to putting in a good performance against them and hopefully getting a win under our belts.”
The match on Sunday at The Kia Oval starts at 11.00am and entry is FREE to the ground.
