WOMENS: Sussex prepare for another Bank Holiday double-header24-May-2013
The Sussex Women have another double-header of matches this Bank Holiday Weekend as they take on both Yorkshire and Kent in the County Championship.
On Sunday, the Women face Yorkshire at Horntye Park, the home of Hastings Cricket Club, whilst on Monday they take on last year’s champions Kent at Hayes Cricket Club. Both matches start at 11.00am and entry to both matches is FREE.
Sussex will look to pick up where they left off with their two wins earlier in the month against Warwickshire and Surrey, which saw Georgia Elwiss scoring her maiden Sussex century at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, Hove to beat the latter.
However, Sussex will be without skipper Holly Colvin and wicket-keeper batsman Sarah Taylor, as both players are out injured. Colvin is out with a broken thumb for six weeks, whilst Taylor still has a calf injury that she sustained at Warwickshire, and ruled her out of the game against Surrey.
All-rounder Arran Brindle will take on the captaincy this week, with Elwiss vice-captain. Under-17 wicket-keeper Abi Freeborn takes over the gloves from Sarah.
Sussex Women's Director of Cricket Charlotte Burton said, “This weekend there are two big matches for us and we will miss Holly and Sarah, but we have a strong side and we are lucky that we have strength in depth, as we have a strong batting line up as well as a strong bowling unit.
"Many players will be given more opportunities this weekend and it is for them to step up and take that opportunity and put in a good performance for the team. We want to go away with another two wins and get to the top of the table.”
