WOMENS: Sussex through to Championship Final15-Jul-2013
Sussex are through to the Women's Senior County Championship Final having finished top of Division One after two outstanding victories over the weekend against Berkshire, by two wickets at Hurstpierpoint College on Saturday, and by seven wickets against Essex at Garon Park, Southend on Sunday. In doing so, they accumulated 35 out of 36 possible win/bonus points.
The likely opposition will be Yorkshire in the final on Sunday 15th September at a venue to be announced. During the season, Sussex won 6 out of their 8 Championship matches beating Kent, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire and Surrey in addition to Berkshire and Essex, whilst losing to Yorkshire and Middlesex.
Terry Burton, Sussex Women's Team Manager, said "Despite a number of injuries to prominent players during the season, this resulted in opportunities for younger players, and the youngsters that we have brought in have been magnificent with on average seven of the team being Under 19s. The development of Women and Girls' cricket within Sussex, and the support of the Sussex Cricket Board, is really excellent which is also borne out by how well the Junior sides are doing."
