WOMENS: Sussex to make belated start to T20 campaign

Sara McGlashan is set to make her Sussex debut on Sunday at Arundel Castle

The Sussex Women will finally hope to get their NatWest T20 campaign underway on Sunday when they take on Kent at Arundel Castle.

The weather ruined their chances last week to start the T20 season against Middlesex and Yorkshire, when the game was called off on Saturday afternoon due to a wet ground. However, Sussex will begin their campaign against Kent, who were defeated by Berkshire and Lancashire last week.

Sussex will be bolstered by the arrival of their new overseas player, New Zealand batsman Sara McGlashan. The squad will still be missing Georgia Elwiss and Danni Wyatt as they are on England duty, so Freya Davies will take on the captaincy role this weekend.

Kent will be without Tammy Beaumont, Laura Marsh and Natasha Farrant as they will also be with England. Skipper Charlotte Edwards is missing due to media duties, however they will have former England International Lydia Greenway amongst their ranks as well as New Zealand captain Suzie Bates.

The match will start at 1.30pm at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground and entrance is FREE.

Director of Sussex Women’s Cricket Charlotte Burton said, “The players are itching to get going in the T20 competition after missing out last week. We are looking forward to having Sara join the side on Sunday which will strengthen our batting.

"We know that Kent can be a strong side, even with a number of players missing for them. We just have to go out there and play our game, keep it simple and start the T20 season off with a win for our home crowd.”
