WRIGHT: Luke signs new deal with Sussex

Sussex CCC are delighted to announce that their England all-rounder Luke Wright has signed a new contract at The PROBIZ County Ground, which will see him remain at Hove until at least the end of the 2015 season.

28th February 2012

26 year-old Wright signed for Sussex at the end of 2003 and has gone from strength to strength since joining the County, including becoming a regular in the England one-day setup, having played 46 one-day internationals and 30 Twenty20 matches.

His appearances in 2011 were mainly limited to the first half of the summer for Sussex due to a troublesome knee injury, with the highlight an unbeaten 81 against Essex Eagles in the Friends Life t20 victory, and he did reach three figures in the LV=County Championship clash with Warwickshire at Arundel.

Now fully fit, Wright has starred in Australia’s Big Bash over the winter, and his 44-ball century for Melbourne Stars against Hobart Hurricanes in January was the fastest ever in their domestic tournament, showing the form which has made him a favourite at The PROBIZ.

Wright, who is currently playing for the New Age Impi in South Africa’s domestic Twenty20, said of his new deal, “I am delighted to have signed a long contract with Sussex. Sussex is a fantastic club of which I have been lucky to win many trophies with and I look forward to helping them towards more success in the coming years.

“Myself and my family are very happy here and I have always been greatly supported by the club and its fans.”

Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, “We are delighted that Luke Wright has committed the next four years to the club.

“He has been with us now since he was 19, has become an integral part of the squad both on and off the pitch, and the way he plays his cricket excites crowds and makes him a dangerous player to play against”.
