Academy beat Brighton at The Nevill Sports Arena

Owain Jones scores 86 not out

The very young Development XI comfortably beat league leaders Brighton and Hove yesterday in the Sussex Premier League at the Nevill Sports Arena, Hove.

Having lost the toss, a disciplined bowling effort quickly had Brighton losing wickets, and at 80 for 5 only a 44 run 6th wicket partnership enabled Brighton to reach a respectable total of 157 all out.  Chris Liddle top scored with 29.  Lewis Hatchett, with 4 – 29 from 14 overs, was the pick of the Development XI bowlers.

In reply, Malcolm Johnson (26) and Owain Jones (86no) put on 48 for the first wicket and then Adam Scott (24) and Gould (13no) built partnerships of 61 and 50 with Jones to secure an eight wicket victory with 15 over’s to spare.  A really encouraging start to our league campaign.

Brighton and Hove CC 157 all out, 54.3 over’s (5 pts)
Development XI 158 for 2, 41.4 over’s (30 pts)
